A Portrait Story: An Artist’s Reimagining of the Gaze

This intimate re-enactment series reflects the artist’s past as a dancer in the early 1980s, not as it actually was, but how she felt she was perceived during that time. Through stylized costume, constructed setting, and the body of a model, the artist reconstructs a version of that experience shaped by external gaze and internal reckoning.
Through the surrogate figure and symbolic staging, the artist examines how women in nightlife were historically framed, and how she, in turn, internalized and resisted those narratives. It is a performance of perception—crafted to reclaim authorship and turn a projected image into an act of self-definition.
